Description:

The monument stands close to the entrance to the Jewish and Karaite cemetery, on a killing site. The monument in the shape of a stela with a triangle roof is made of concrete and painted white. Two metal plaques are affixed to it, one on the top of the other. The top plaque has a Yiddish inscription, with the the Star of David above the text. The lower plaque has an inscription in Lithuanian.

Translation: In memory of / about 30 Jews of Birzh / whom the Nazis and their / local helpers / killed in 1941.

Translation: At this place, Nazis and their local collaborators shot about 30 people of Jewish and Lithuanian origin in 1941.

History

In July 1941, about a dozen Biržai Jews were taken from the jail at the police station and shot at the Biržai Jewish cemetery. The shooting was carried out by German soldiers.

A monument was erected in the early 1990s, by the Jewish Community of Lithuania.

On October 7, 1995, the monument was registered in the State Cultural Register of the Republic of Lithuania of national importance (no. 37601).
