German forces captured Radaškovičy (Radashkovichy) on June 26, 1941. Since then, several mass shootings of Jews have taken place. The present monument commemorates the mass murder operation that was carried out on March 11, 1942. On that day, SS and SD forces surrounded the ghetto. The Germans drove the Jews to the marketplace, beating them with rubber truncheons and gun butts. Sick persons were shot to death on the spot. From time to time, the Germans also shot into the crowd. The Jews were divided into two groups - of those considered capable of working - was composed of young persons and specialists, the other - of those deemed unfit to work. The Germans took the second group - composed from women, children, and men considered incapable of working -- to a barn. Then the Germans took the men into the barn in groups of four and shot them to death. The Germans poured gasoline over the bodies of the Jews and set the barn on fire. During this murder operation, about 850 Jews were murdered [Yad Vashem: The Untold Stories].
The monument was erected in 1946 at the corner of zavulak Polacki and ulitsa 8-go Marta [Yad Vashem: The Untold Stories]. The monument at Gastello Street was erected a year later and has an almost identical shape [Yad Vashem: The Untold Stories].
Today, the monument is a place of commemorative ceremonies.
