Description
The monument is erected at the place of the 5 mass graves where the Jewish Holocaust victims from Škloŭ (Shklov) were reburied. It has the shape of an obelisk with the Star of David carved on it.
The monument bears a Russian inscription that includes a quote from a short poem written by the Soviet poetess Olga Bergolts (Bergholz). It was frequently used on the Soviet monuments.

Škloŭ (Shklov) was occupied by the Germans on July 12, 1941. At the end of the same month, the two ghettos were created. Since then and to the beginning of October 1941, local Jews were killed in murder operations at five different murder sites [Yad Vashem: The Untold Stories].
The memorialization began in 1955 when Jewish survivors from Škloŭ (Shklov) exhumed the bodies of their relatives who had been murdered during the Holocaust at various locations near the town and transferred them to the old Jewish cemetery. The bodies were buried in 5 mass graves, and a present monument was erected [Yad Vashem: The Untold Stories]. Today it is a place of commemorative ceremonies.
Another monument was established by local authorities in 1979, on the banks of the Dniepr.
