History

The monument was unveiled on 16 June 1994 on the site of the ghetto commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the Subotica ghetto, and the deportation of the Subotica Jews. On June 16, 1944, the Jews of Subotica were taken from this ghetto to larger ghettos in southern Hungary, and from there to concentration camps, mainly to Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Commemoration ceremonies have been annually held by this monument on the anniversary of its unveiling.

The memorial is maintained by The Municipality of Subotica
