Who is Commemorated?

Jewish Victims of the Holocaust from Ostrozhets

Description

The monument is located in the Jewish cemetery, where mass killings of Jews took place during WWII. The territory of the cemetery, which is included in the memorial complex, is surrounded by a wooden fence. The monument itself is situated outside the fenced area, near the road, dividing the cemetery in two parts. It is a gray granite square plaque with identical Ukrainian, English, and Hebrew inscriptions. A Magen David is carved at the top of the plaque. Several steps lead to the paved area with the plaque. Near the monument, there is a square column with plaques attached to it. They bear information about the Holocaust and the Jewish community in Ostrozhets. An information board with the site plan is also situated near the monument.

Inscriptions

English:

Between 1941 and 1944 Jewish life in Ostrozhets
and the surrounding area was eradicated by the
German occupiers and their subordinate auxiliary
authorities. At least 800 Jews were murdered at
this site.
May their souls be bound in the bond of everlasting
life.
