Description:
The monument is placed in the intersection of Dzirnava and Krasta Streets. It is a black granite stele on a low pedestal. Four almost identical inscriptions in Latvian, Yiddish, Russian, and English are preceded by the Star of David. In its lower right, there is another Star of David and the name of the monument’s sponsor, the Council of Jewish Communities in Latvia in Latvian, English, and Russian.

The troops of Nazi Germany entered Rēzekne on July 3, 1941. The first murders of Jews took place already on the following day. On July 15, 1941, for propaganda purposes, a group of Jews was ordered to unearth Latvians killed by the retreating Soviets. After that, the killing of Jews began. Some Jews were trying to hide in the garden of Leščinski, but they were followed and killed.
A monument near the Leščinski Garden was erected in 2006 by the Council of Jewish Communities of Latvia.
