Description

This memorial is made up of two elements: a concrete stele and a bronze sculpture in front of it. The stele displays an image of a young Raoul Wallenberg on its front, and the bronze sculpture depicts two children, apparently sleeping, covered in an oversized coat.

The name of the monument is engraved on the back of the stele, and a bronze sign on the ground beneath this engraving names the donor and artist.

Summary and Remarks
History

In 2002, the City of Göteborg decided to honor Raoul Wallenberg with a monument. The place for the monument was chosen in 2003 and the Charles Felix Lindbergs donationfond was commissioned to realize the project. 1,5 million SEK was provided for this purpose. A jury set for the project in 2003 approached several artists and in unanimously voted for Gyllenhammar's proposal (Schult, p. 362-363).

The memorial was unveiled on May 25, 2007, by the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
