Who is Commemorated?
The synagogue of Čakovec, which was desecrated in 1944.
Description:
The memorial is situated at the corner of two streets, on the site of the synagogue.
It consists of two slabs forming a corner, seven concrete and stone blocks, and a metal Star of David relying on three of them. One stone block bears a granite plaque with an inscription in Hebrew and Croatian; another block bears a granite stone with the inauguration date.
According to a newspaper description, the memorial presents "a wounded Star of David on ruins." (Spomen-obilježje, p. 52).
