Memorial Name

Žudynių vieta, kapas ir skulptūrinis memorialas - Mass killing site and sculptural memorial

Who is Commemorated?

103 Panevežys Jews and so called Soviet activists murdered at this site.

Description:

The monument is situated on the killing site, which currently is a park.

The memorial consists of 9 oak sculptures resembling traditional Lithuanian roofed poles or roofed pillars. Originally there were 10 sculptures, but one has been lost. In the center, there are two pillars united by a common roof. A Lithuanian dedication is attached to them in the lower tier, while three wooden bells hang in the upper one. An additional pillar bears the names of the local folk sculptors in Lithuanian, the dedication in Russian, and the date. Another composite pillar stands at the entrance to the site.

Inscription:

On the central double pillars:

Translation: In our work their / memory is alive
