Art Alone

© Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Photographer: Unknown,
The picture depicts a group of praying Jews sitting around a table, wearing dark cloths. All the adults are bearded. Thy wear green-blue praying shawls over black yarmulkes, except for the old man on the right whose embroidered yarmulke is golden. He looks at two young boys who sit to his right reading together from a book. Next on the right sits a thin young man, his back to the spectator, reading a book which leans against one of the candle-boxes on the table. On the far right of the table a red-bearded man is holding a book and hits his chest with his right hand. Beside him sits a black bearded man, reading. Next to him is an older man, whose lowered head is only seen through the candles. At the left edge of the table sits an old, white bearded man, holding a book with his left hand and putting his left hand on his forehead. Behind him, on the far left side of the picture, stands a young man whose eyes are closed, leaning his forehead against the Torah shrine. Another figure whose head is covered with a praying shawl sits at the left side of the table. A bearded man with shining, wide open eyes, sits to his right. On the table are lited high candles within boxes. Behind the table is a Torah shrine and on the right wall is a picture, probably a Shiviti plate.
