The work represents a composition on the theme "Disasters of War". It shows a group of the Jews mourning their killed children. To the right there is represented a woman sitting on the stone and looking at her dead child stretched on the ground at her legs. A small boy has pressed himself to his mother from the right, an elder one is embracing the woman from behind and the third one is standing to the left embracing his head with his hands. A figure of a tall Jew dressed in a frock-coat and a peaked cap is represented in the center of the composition behind the boy. With his left hand he reaches the sitting woman while his right hand is streched to the left and upwards.To the right an old man in a frock-coat and in a peaked cap and a teen-ager are carrying a body of a dead maid. The man is embracing her shoulders and waist while the boy is supporting her legs. On the background the outlines of the schtetl can be seen.
