Description

The following description was prepared by William Gross:

A lovely embroidery that comes from the collection of the Sassoon family and was sold at public auction a few years ago. It was made and given as a gift to one of the members of that family from the Yellin sisters mentioned in the inscription. A most unusual feature of this lovingly made embroidery is the naming of the image in the center in three languages: Hebrew, French and Arabic. The use of Arabic calligraphy on a Jewish textile is highly unusual. The image, of course, is not the Mosque of Omar, but rather the Dome of the Rock, an image which had been used to represent the Jewish Temple Mount in visual ways for several hundred years.    Made for Mazal Tov Eliah Ezra by Myra Yellin Outwater and Sarah Yellin.

Inscription:  Mazkeret Todah......
