Obj. ID: 39121 Mikdash Melech -- Bereishit by Rabbi Shalom Buzaglo, Kopys', 1810
sub-set tree:
This text was prepared by William Gross:
The first systematic commentary on the entire Zohar ever to be published. The work was written by R' Shalom Buzaglo, a Moroccan-born Kabbalist, who lived his later years in London (where he died in 1780). Although of Sephardic orientation, he served as a member of the Aschkenazic London Beth Din. R. Saul of the Hague lauds him as “ha-Rav ha-Muvhak, ha-Dayan ha-Metzuyan.” His sterling reputation and his pre-eminence in kabbalistic matters were such that both R. Jonathan Eybeschuetz and R. Jacob Emden attempted to influence Buzgalo to endorse their positions.
The book is printed on light blue paper
The printer, Rabbi Yisrael Yaffe, is known as the "Printer from Kopyst." He printed many Chassidic works. Rabbi Yisrael Yaffe was a disciple of Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Vitebsk and was close to the Baal HaTanya. He carried the Baal HaTanya on his shoulders when he was released from prison in 1799. An adherent of Chabad Chassidism, he eventually emigrated to Eretz Israel, settled in Hebron, and established the country's first Hebrew printing press.
Ya'ari lists four different marks employed by R' Yaffe in his works (Ya'ari 182-185). The current mark is not included in his inventory.
