Obj. ID: 36700 Mapah Memorial Plaque donated by Mirah Nahon, Tangier (Tanger), circa 1895
sub-set tree:
The following description was prepared by William Gross:
Often covering the Torah reading stand was a textile, either a fine piece of fabric in its own right or, most often, embroidered. The Torah scroll is opened and laid upon this fabric for the reading. This silver object is a dedicatory plaque to be sewn to such a cover memorializing five individuals from the community, all family members of the woman who is the donor from the Nahon family, a prominent family in Tangier. There is a synagogue lamp with a personality from this family in the Gross Family Collection.
