The following description was prepared by William Gross:
A sheet on which are printed birth amulets for both a male and female child. Each of these is printed on a different side of the paper such that the sheet can be folded and the appropriate amulet exposed. The original printed sheet is represented in Gross Family Collection 027.011.185. The two separate sheets, for male and female children, are this one and 027.011.291. This amulet is for the female child.
This amulet is not imprinted with a place of publication, but almost surely was printed in Germany. The inscriptions, in Hebrew and Yiddish, are almost exactly those on other German amulets in the collection, containing many specific formulas against Lilith. The additional mention of the names of the three angels, Sanoi, Sansanoi, and Smangalaf, whose invocation is used to defend against Lilith, confirms this as a birth amulet. The "Shir le-Ma’alot" (Psalm 121) prayer is also cited, as well as other amuletic formulas. The amulet has a decorative frame.
