Obj. ID: 54446 Amulet, Baghdad, circa 1900
sub-set tree:
The following description was prepared by William Gross:
An early Iraqi printed amulet published against the evil eye. The large letter titles indicate use as a Mizrach and Shiviti as well. The printing of gold ink on shiny colored paper is known from the printing house of Zuckerman in Jerusalem but is a rare discovery from a press in Baghdad. The layout of the amulet features three arched panels near the top, a standard convention in printed ketubot from Baghdad. There is a written inscription in the lower right portion of the page in the space left for the name of the student to whom this was dedicated, similar to the kind of dedication at the end of the amulet, also from Bagdhad, Gross. This amulet has exactly the same text as 027.011.333 and is dedicated to the same person as well.
