Description

The following description was prepared by William Gross:

This is an early amulet from Poland, produced by the seldom-found stone lithograph technique from Warsaw on Jewish items of this period. This is one of three pages from this unknown press from the period of the 1830's in Warsaw that are in the Gross Family Collection. The costumes in all these pieces are Hassidic, which increases their rarity. In this example as well as one other the Leviathan, one of the primary Messianic symbols in Judaism, is used to frame part of the text. The amulet promises miracles to those who make charitable donations as well as a blessing in the name of Rabbi Me'r Ba'al na-Nes.
