The following description was prepared by William Gross:

While the inscription engraved along the rim of the plate clearly identifies it as a Pesach plate, the central motif, that of a double-headed eagle, appears more to honor the Austro-Hungarian Empire of which it is a symbol than the Jewish holiday. Another unusual feature is the name in Latin on back: Iosephus Lebl Adler, Anno Domini 1796. One does not usually find the words "Anno Domini" or "The year of our Lord" inscribed or written on Jewish objects. The letters of the Hebrew date are recorded on the front of the plate around the eagle figure. The composition is extremely attractive.
