The following description was prepared by William Gross:
This type of candlestick pair is the one that was used in the typical Jewish household in Lithuania. There are many minor variations, but the proportions and decorative features are quite similar. Some of the decorative elements were used in the typical Lithuanian Kiddush cups as well. Most of the silversmiths in Vilna were Jewish, so most of the ritual objects found were made by Jews, an unusual situation for Europe. In this case, the maker, Movsha Asas, has a first name which in Hebrew is Moshe.
