sub-set tree:
The following description was prepared by William Gross:
The sanctification of the Shabbat and Holidays is connected with a blessing recited over wine or grape juice. While the wine can be drunk from any vessel, often special cups are created for the purpose. In most cases, regular cups are simply decorated or inscribed with names or blessings, rendering them exclusively for the Kiddush.
There exist a very small number of objects for the Havdalah ceremony which combine the wine cup and the Havdalah spice container. Their scarcity is extreme. This example is one of those few existing pieces and is and one of the earlier examples, as most are from the latter part of the 19th century. The cover is made as a spice container with a bottom which unscrews in order to put in the spices. The top of the cover is made with a pierced design so the aroma can be released and inhaled.
On the bottom is the quality silver mark "12".
