Description

The following description was prepared by William Gross:

Gumpel is one of the pioneers of the modern, contemporary form in Jewish ritual objects. He emigrated from Germany in the 1930's and worked with Ludwig Wolpert in the New Bezalel.  He continued working for many decades in a very clean style with its roots in the Bauhaus ethos. In 2012 there was a major exhibition of his and Wolpert's work at the Israel Museum. This cup with its purity of form rests very much within the parameters of his style and the excellence of his workmanship.
