The following description was prepared by William Gross:
Seals were often used in 19th-century Morocco and this was particularly true of rabbinic figures. This is the seal of the Rabbi Shlomo ibn Zur, of the family in Fez who served as rabbis of the community through many generations. This particular seal appears to be that of the father of the most famous of the family, Raphael ibn Zur who was Rabbi during the last half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th and who is buried in one of the most imposing tombs of the Fez cemetery. There are objects from several generations of this family in the Gross family collection.
