Object Alone

The wooden Torah case consists of a cylindrical body composed of six and a half facets on each side of the body. The body is decorated with inlaid wood, shell and ivory pieces attached in a central panel. The panel is framed by horizontal bands on its upper and lower borders, and vertical bands on the opening of the case. The central panel is decorated with a dense overall pattern composed of white Stars^of^David alternating with hexagons. Each hexagon inscribes a smaller Star^of^David. The framing bands are decorated with the same pattern as the central panel, yet differ in their white and rose coloring. Two stripes of white shell and ivory flank the bands on either side. A round silver plaque is attached to the centre of the case opening's borders. It bears a dedicatory inscription engraved in square, filled letters and reads:

!זכרה השם /להם לטובה/ מאת האדון/ אליהו ווהבה/ ואשתו אלגרה/ ווהבה אלדיה/ זה הספר והתיק/ תחת רשותם/ לטלטלו/ לאזה/ מקום/ שירצו תורה יהוה תמימה משיבת נפש עדות יהוה נאמנה מחכימת פתי פקודי יהוה ישרים משמחי לב מצוות יהוה ברה מאירת עינים נתרם על ידי/ משפחת פרץ/ על שם בנינו/ אבישי )שמעון( פרץ/ לחיי!

!Remember the name/.../from the man/ Eliahu ..../ and his wife Alegra ....Aldid/ this is the Torah and the Torah Case/ that under their permission/ can be moved/ to any /place/ that they desire.

The plain top is decorated by an encircled band composed by a running pattern of triangles and romboid. Two holes with one inserted apex are at the top of the case The case is closed by an hoocked clasp at the top of case opening. Two metal hinges are attached in the back of the case. The inner faces are plain wood. They are framed at the top and at the bottom by a wood bands bearing holes at one part with corresponding pins at the other part. The internal and horizontal bands bears inlaid white and green shell, ivory and gold decoration. It consist in a central inscription and identicals running pattern at the extremes composed by octogons bearing smaller Stars^of^David into bigger ones. The inscriptions writted in filled and square letters reads:

Right-top: !The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul...! Right-bottom: !...the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple! (Ps.19:7).

Left-top: !The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart...! Left-bottom: !...the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes! (Ps. 19:8).

A posterior dedicatory inscription is attached to the interior face of the case. It is written on paper in square, filled letters, and reads: !Donated by the Peretz family in the name of the son Abishai (Shimeon) Peretz.!
