Jewish Funerary Art Site of the Jewish cemetery in Police, Poland
According to ESJF European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative, the Jewish cemetery in Police was established in the 19th century in the southern part of the city, in today’s Nowopol Street. The first Jewish families moved here only in the 1930s. The number of Jews was never higher than 60. In 1895, only 9 Jews lived in Police.
Nevertheless, this small commune had its own cemetery next to the municipal cemetery, with an area of approximately 0.2 ha, of which no trace has remained. The cemetery area was incorporated into the city park. It is not known what happened to the tombstones. Some old trees have been preserved in this area. The necropolis is not commemorated in any form.
The site of the Jewish Cemetery in Police was located in what is today Park Staromiejski at the extension of Nowopol Street, to the west of the Roman Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary located on Mazurska Street. The cemetery was, more or less, in one line with this church. Today only a small elevation of the area remains of the cemetery area. The GPS coordinates of this elevation are approximately 53.546604, 14.570073.
