Sacred and Ritual Objects Amulet, Israel/Eretz Israel, circa 1980
The following description was prepared by William Gross:
This amulet is in an unusual format, being quite long and quite narrow as well. , this amulet is written in both formal square script and informal script. The graphic elements are quite finely drawn and emphasize by thick black lines. There is a second amulet in the Gross Family Collection by the same scribal hand - 027.012.24.
Because of the narrow parchment, a number of texts are drawn vertically rather than across the width. Included are a magic square containing the 72 letter name of God, two swords again Lilith and a humanoid diagram in the lower section. The purpose is clearly for a wide, general protection of the intended owner, most likely a new-born male, using a very wide variety of Kabbalistic names.
