Old Jewish cemetery in Dukla, Poland

© ESJF European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative, Photographer: ESJF European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative, 2020

According to ESJF European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative, the cemetery was established in the 18th century. As a result of the destruction during the Second World War and the devastation in later years, only a few dozen tombstones remained in situ and good condition.

The old cemetery was entered into the register of monuments under the number A-157 on July 28, 1989. Several cleaning works by students and volunteer have been undertaken in the cemetery during the last decades.

There are the remnants of the old stone fence, only parts of it are still standing. There are the remnants of an ohel.

There are 200 gravestones. Around half of the tombstones are leaning, broken or have been piled together, and their inscriptions are difficult to read. Many of them overgrown with moss. There are no tombstones from the 20th century, it is likely that the community used the new cemetery in that time.

Date of oldest tombstone: 1826
Date of newest tombstone: 1893
Perimeter length: 503 metres

The cemetery is located next to 62, Trakt Wegierski Street. There's a road to the cemetery next to the house, which is named Dr. Józefa Samuela Blocha Street.
