Memorial on the site of the Jewish section in the Jerusalem cemetery, Irkutsk, Russia

© Elena Berman, Photographer: Berman, Elena, 2022

The Jerusalem cemetery that had two Jewish sections was destroyed in the Soviet period. Since 2010s, the city administration made attempts to rearrange the park in the memorial complex, it planned to commemorate five denominations that were once buried there. In 2019, the Russian Orthodox chapel and a monument dedicating Jews, who were buried in the cemetery, were unveiled.

The memorial is based on the tombstone marker of the Rafilzon family known from the images.
