Sacred and Ritual Objects  Alms box (See also Hevra Kadisha; Home alms box), Copenhagen, 1905

The following description was prepared by William Gross:

This charity box was created for the holy society "Society for the Care for the Sick" at the start of the 20th century.  The design is by Mogens Ballin and Siegfried Wagner of Copenhagen.  Ballin was a Danish Jew and an active artist on the Danish scene, eventually forming a team with Wagner and concentrating on designs in the field of decorative arts.  There is at least one Chanukah menorah designed by them from the same period. Such art nouveau design in Judaica is exceedingly rare. On one side is a quotation from Psalm 41. The base plate carries an MB monogram.
