Modern Jewish Art
  Malkin, Hasids in a synagogue

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Yachilevitch, Michael, 10.1994
The painting shows a scene of Hassids praying in a synagogue. Almost the entire composition consists of a brightly lit archway. In the upper middle part, under the archway, the Tablets of the Commandments hang in the form of two adjoining rectangles with semicircular tops. Under them is the rostrum, and standing on it is a Tora scroll in its serafim casing. To the right and left of the rostrum stand dark praying figures elongated upwards, wearing long clothes and shtreimels. The figures and their faces with long white beards are seen in profile, facing the rostrum. They stand at different levels on a floor, which consists of grey, yellow, and brown spaces crossing each other.
