  Wooden Synagogue in Zabłudów, Poland

© Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Photographer: Breyer, Alois, 1910-1913

The synagogue was built in 1635 (according to Piechotka, M., and K. Piechotka, Bramy Nieba: Bóznice drewniane, p. 372). Piechotka indicate the date of the murals as 1712. due to the fact that this date is specified in the inscription. However, it is possible that the murals was made later, during the renovation of the building in 1765.

The bulk of the building with prayer hall is almost square in plan, covered with a high combined pyramidal roof. Two symmetrical pavilions flank the main façade of the synagogue. Two-tier galleries are added to the main façade. The women’s sections were attached to the northern and southern sides of the building.
