Sacred and Ritual Objects Torah shield, Turkey, 1923
The silver oval Torah shield consists of a plate.
The center depicts a bouquet of five big flowers and leaves radiating from a vase. The vase is decorated with vertical groved bands, set on a narrow double base. In the lower part of the shield two rocais from which flowers leaves and petals are radiating symmetricaly. Big leaves which turn inside frame the shield. The smooth arched upper part of the shield bears a dedicatory inscription in three lines ,in square filled letters. It reads from right to left: "הקדש לק"ק )לקהל קדוש( אלגזי יב"ץ )יראו בנחמת ציון( לע"נ )לעילוי נשמת( זאפירה אשת יוסף קאזיס נ"ע )נוחו עדן( שנת 3865" "Dedicated to the holy congregation Algazy may they witness the comfort of zion for the exaltation of the soul of Zaphira the wife of Josef Cazis may he rest in Eden the year 5683 [1923]"
Five rings are attached to the lower part of the shild. A long chain is inserted through two rings connected to both ends of the arch which tops the shield.
