  Prayer shawl bag, Jerusalem

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Radovan, Zev, 1997

The rectangular Talit bag comprises of a bag and a cover. It is closed by two loops, attached to its elongated side. Two buttons for closing appear on its other side.

The Western Wall, depicted as three-row brick wall with three cypresses on it appears inside an opened above medallion in the center of the back side of the bag. The central cypress is higher than the two others. A domed building decorates the medallion on the right. A brick road appears in front of the Wall and the building.

A Star of David is depicted in the center exactly above the opening in the medallion. Two symmetrical to each other inscriptions flank the Star of David, appearing diagonally downwards from the center. (Two inscriptions, divided into two symmetrical pairs of words, flank the Star of David, appearing diagonally downwards from the center.) They are written in square-filled letters and read:

"מזכרת כותל/ מערבי ירושלם" (מזכרת ירושלם, כותל מערבי)

“remembrance (souvenir) Wall / of Jerusalem Western”, (“remembrance ofJerusalem”, “The Western Wall”)

A six-petal flower decorates the bag in the center below the medallion. Two thin branches with leaves and flowers grow from the flower to both sides, firstly straight and then up.

The lower and the upper patterns together resemble a crown around the central motif of medallion.
