The following description was prepared by William Gross:
This scroll is a finely designed and written amulet for a male, Salman ben Chavivah. As with many amulets for males, this is primarily a general protection amulet again a variety of threats and evils, but especially against Lilith; it is most likely an amulet for a newly born male child. A nice rendition of Lilith restrained is on the amulet, very similar to an image on another three amulets in the Gross Family Collection.
There are more than the usual amount of both script and Kabbalistic images, including several magic squares, one with the 72 letter name of God. At the bottom is a depiction of the Kabbalistic hand in whose fingers is inscribed the blessing of the Cohanim.
The amulet is exceptionally long and the owners name has been partially erased in the three places that it is written but remains on the back of the parchment.
Made For: Salman ben Chaviva
