The page opening the general preface to the book is double-framed in pink ink.

The display letters of the initial word “preface” (הקדמה) written in the upper part of the page are decorated with branches, leaves and flowers in spared ground technique.

The panel including the word “the book” (הספר) opening the text is formed by a branch with leaves in pink curved as a shield. Within the shield there is a strip of a ground in brown ink with a vase on it. Branches with leaves emerge from the vase and surround the letters.
