Fol. 40v: Text page of Musaf for the New Year including a text illustration of a man blowing a shofar and three small initial words all written in red, with the word KaShaK ( קשק ) partially decorated by wriggly-work by a later hand of the 18th century. The text illustration executed by artist A in brown and red ink, is set below the initial word “KaShaK” (קשק), which are the initials signaling the rhythm and specific number of sounds which should be blown on the shofar at this point of the service. The man is standing in a gabled opening drawn in thin red lines, blowing a long shofar held in his right hand. The man is garbed in a long robe decorated with tiny red circles and lines and his legs and feet are filled in with dark brown ink.
