Description

The monument is located at the killing site in the former Szytnia, near Povchyne village in Zhytomyrska oblast and Korets in Rivnenska oblast. The site is surrounded by a metal fence, decorated by Menorot and stars of David and an arched gate. The mass grave is limited by low stone borders. A stone obelisk with Ukrainian and Hebrew inscriptions sits on a mass grave. A Magen David is carved at the top of the monument. A few steps lead to the obelisk.

The first mass murder of Korets Jews took place on July 12, 1941. The Nazis killed 120 Jews of independent professions in Shytnia [Tsal Kaplun Foundation]. 

Holocaust Survivors erected a small memorial at the killing site in Shytnia after the war [Yad Vashem]. According to the inscriptions on the monument, Natives of Korets from Israel erected an obelisk on the mass grave in 1998.
