Jewish Funerary Art Jewish cemetery in Kryve Ozero, Ukraine
According to ESJF European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative, the exact period of the cemetery’s establishment is unknown, but according to the dates on the preserved tombstones it can be assumed the cemetery was founded in the mid 19th century. It was most likely marked on maps of the region from the 1860s.
The majority of the cemetery was demolished and is now derelict. The preserved section in the northwest corner is severely overgrown with bushes and tall grass. The site is used for cattle grazing. Some of the tombstones are toppled, while others are partially sunken in the ground. Private houses and gardens have been built at points around the cemetery's border. There is a low metal fence with concrete pillars and a metal gate at the cemetery's entrance, but the remainder of the perimeter is unfenced and adjacent to courtyards and the street.
The cemetery is located in the south end of the village. In order to reach it, drive south along Kalantyrska Street until the point marked on the maps as Raiffaisen bank, take the first right. Continue for a further 200 metres to reach the cemetery.
