Die alten jüdischen Heiligthümer, Gottesdienste und Gewohnheiten, für Augen gestellet, in einer ausführlichen Beschreibung des gantzen Levitischen Priesterthums. Hamburg: Gottfried Liebernickel, Buchhändler im Dom, 1704. German with some Latin and Hebrew. A comprehensive survey of Jewish customs, by the theologian Johannes Lund, with emphasis on the Temple and the holy vessels. Accompanied by 32 illustration plates (etchings); four plate double spread. The illustrations portray the priest's garments, the Temple and the holy vessels, various Jewish customs such as Tefilin, etc.
Thi is a richly illustrated commentary in German on Leviticus, written by a Protestant (Lutheran) Christian Hebraist, Johann Lund (1638-1686), who lived in Denmark. Lund’s valuable scholarly works remained unpublished at his death. His son published them in three parts under separate titles in Schleswig in 1695-96. This edition, published in 1704 in one volume and with a new title, constitutes the second. It includes a detailed examination of ancient and contemporary Jewish practices and symbolism, with special emphasis on the Temple worship and the construction of the Tabernacle, the holy vessels and sacerdotal vestments. Numerous skillfully executed plates depict the tabernacle and its implements, including the garments of the High Priest.
