Sacred and Ritual Torah mantle, Jerusalem, 1913
The following description was prepared by William Gross:
This Torah mantle, or "Meil", was beautifully embroiderd on a dark colored velvet material, apparently in Eretz Israel in the first part of the 20th century. The depicted crown, vegetal decoration and inscriptions are all applied in a tightly embroidered gold colored metalic thread. The dedicatory inscription is presented in the form of a long ribbon or banner at the bottom. Central to the design is an extremely charming and attractive embroidery of the Western Wall and Temple mount, applied in multi-colored silk thread.
