The following description was prepared by William Gross:
This large coverd chalice is a fine example of Judaica that was not "born" Jewish but rather became so through continued use. Made in mid-19th century Moscow, the cup was at some point purchased by the Spertus family living in Chernigov, Ukraine. The object was on the Erev Pesach seder table every year, serving as the Elijah Cup. When Maurice and Herman Spertus fled Russia in 1921, they brought out this family heirloom with them and it remained in use with Maurice Spertus and his family for Passover. It is in use to this day every year for the same purpose with the Gross Family in Tel Aviv.
It is decorated with bunches of grapes as part of the engraved motifs, so it is most suitable as a wine beaker.
