Jewish Architecture Prayer room at the house of Da Pinto in Middelburg, The Netherlands

This building was constructed in the middle of the seventeenth century and functioned as the private residence of Jacob Jessurum de Pinto. Around the year 1640, synagogue services were held at this location for the Portuguese-Jewish community. The architect Jacob Juda Leon, also known as ‘Templo’ and famous for his Biblical Temple model, was a rabbi at this house.
The current façade was constructed in the eighteenth century.
