  Synagogue in Medemblik, The Netherlands

The building, constructed in 1808 and functioned as a synagogue until 1926, has a basic layout, a hipped roof, and Gothic lancet windows. The Jewish community of Medemblik was officially dissolved in 1950 and was merged with Enkhuizen. The building eventually became the property of the municipality of Medemblik.

During a later renovation in 1980/82, attempts were made to restore the original entrance with its pilasters and Hebrew inscription (Haggai 2:9). The women’s gallery is still present and is accessible via a door to the left of the main entrance.

The foundation Stichting Synagoge Medemblik is creating plans to make the building open to the public.
