Sacred and Ritual Objects  Torah case, Libya, 1896

The wooden Torah case consists of a body and a coronet.##The body has ten facets. Eleven ivory knobs for hanging the Torah case wrapper, encircle the upper border. A pointed arch silver plaque is attached at both sides of the case's opening bearing a dedicatory inscription framed with a horseshoe arches. It is decorated with a floral pattern.A hooked closure is above the plaque. The inner face is plain wood. The hollow bottom has a rectangular hand holders. The top is decorated with a row of seven round holes. Two rods are at top of the case. The coronet is faceted. Each of the ten facets is decorated with dubble arched pattern. The dedicatory inscription is engraved in square linear letters.The inscription is devided to two part and read from the right toward the left.On top of each part the inscriptions: בינ!ו )בשם ה' נעשה ונצליח( ##עמ!י )עזרי מעם ה'( !In the name of the Lord,let us do and thrive.! The inscription on the right: ראו את יקר##הספר התורה##מפנינים היא יקרה##ליהודים היתה אורה##אשר פעו ועשו##האחים היקרים## שלא יתפרדו##הר כמוס הי!ו.## Continues on the left: ה!ר ציון הי!ו##מנוחת מור אביהם##המו!ן הר יוסף##ששון נע נגמרה##מלאכתו בחדש##סיון המוכתר## בכתר תורה שנת##ששו!ן לפרט גדול.##
