Sacred and Ritual Objects Torah finials, Turkey, 1913
The silver Torah finials consist of a shaft,a body and an apex.
The cylindrical tapering shaft is encircled at the bottom and top by rings. The upper part of the shaft is decorated with a geometrical design. The first shaft bears an inscription in square filled letters and reads: !ממני מ' )מרת( קלארה תמ!א )תבורך מנשי אוהל( בת אליה דוד הי!ו )השם ישמרהו ויצילהו( לאלול ש' )שנת( 3765! !From me Mrs. Klara, she will be blessed above women of the tent (Judg. 5:24) daughter of Eliyah David may the lord protect him and save him, Elul, the year of 5673 (1913)! The second shaft bears an inscription in square linear letters and reads: !לע!נ )לעילוי נשמת( אישי גבריאל אמיראם נ!ע )נוחו עדן( ובנו יהושע מ!ב! !For the exaltation of the soul of my husband Gabriel Amiram may he rest in Eden and his son Joshuah .......!
The globular body is composed of two semicircles joined by a band decorated with a pattern of arches filled by leafs. Five rings are attached to the band and bear chains with bells.
The apex is vase shaped, set on a floral circlet.
