Sacred and Ritual Objects Torah shield, Turkey, 1939
The silver round Torah shield consists of a plate and a dedicatory plaque.
The center depicts two big flowers, encircled by a bouquet of flowers. Twelve petals, seperated by lily flowers, are radiating from the center, each encircles a bouquet of flowers. The flower created by the petals is encircled by a pettern of a lily flower on a base of three leaves and a flower with two small flowers on both sides alternatly. The lower edges of the shield are decorated with a pattern of a crest and flowers with leaves alternatly. Five pendants of a chain and a bell, hang from the lower part of the wavy edges.
The upper edges are surmounted by a dedicatory plaque in a crescent moon shape. The plaque bears an inscription in square linear letters and reads: "חקק שק"ק )שקהל קדוש( גברת יב"ץ )יראו בנחמת ציון(/ מהר' )מהרב( שלמה ב)ן( אברהם הי"ו)השם ישמרהו ויצילהו(/ למנוחת בתה הנפטרת בק"ש/ מאוסטרילייא מכ כת מרים הם/ א שת הר )הרב( שמאלק ש שון הי"ו )השם ישמרהו ויצילהו( נפ )נפטרה( כיום אדר א' 8 ש )שנת( 9965 תנצב"ה )תהא נשמתה צרורה בצרור החיים(" "Written that the holy community Signora may it witness the comfort of Zion. From the Rabbi Solomon son of Abraham may the Lord protect him and save him. For the repose of her daughter who passed away in Kriat Shema From Ostrilya........Miriam ......the wife of Rabbi Shmuel Sasson may the Lord protect him and save him. Died at the day of the eighth of first Adar the year 5699 [1939] May their soul be bound up in the bond of life"
