Modern Jewish Art
  Sgan-Cohen, Portrait of a man

© Center for Jewish Art, Photographer: Laor, Liora,

The figure of a man, standing with legs apart on a long piece of unstretched canvas, leaning on a green staff held before him with both hands together. A red triangle surmounts the green staff. The contours of the body are formed by black elipses which create the illusion of depth/form. A small picture of a man's head on stretched canvas is attached to the upper part of the unstretched canvas. The head, which is outlined in black and colored pink, is a portrait of the artist above the body. His hair is dishvelled and he has a menancing look in his eyes that is emphasized by the pale pink color of his face. The upper part of his blue shirt is discernable. The combination of the yellow background, the look on his face, and the pointed staff, together creates a intimidating and depressing mood.
