Sacred and Ritual Objects Torah pointer, Turkey, 1945
The silver Torah pointer consists of a bar, a pointer and a hanger. The bar is divided into an upper, middle and lower part. The rectangular upper part is surmounted by a ball which terminates with a loop hanger. A chain with a Star of David in its end, is inserted through the loop hanger. The rectangular lower part terminates with a pointer in a shape of a clenched hand with a straight index finger. The palm bears the initial: "ה'" "The Lord" The upper and lower parts bear a dedicatory inscription in square linear letters, which reads from the upper part towards the pointer: On the upper part:
"הקדש לק"ק )לקהל קדוש( עץ החיים יב"ץ )יראו בנחמת ציון( ממני"
"Dedicated to the Holy Congregation Etz-Haim .................. ...........from me"
continues on the lower part:
"משה אבולאפייא לע"ן )לעילוי נשמת( ג'וייא לוי בתריינא"
"Moses Abulafia for the exaltation of the soul of Goya Levy Batraighnah"
ends on the back of the lower part: "מ"ב 51 סיון 5075" "..................15 Sivan 5705 [1945]"
