  Hanging oil lamp, Morocco, 1911-1931

The haging lamp is made of silver (or silverplated brass) and consists of a holder and a hanger,as well as an oil container . The holder is composed of a plate as bottom and a hoop, which are linked to each other by chains. The plate is decorated by openworked central motif surrounded by foliate pattern. The plate has a parapet decorated with geometrical openworked pattern. The convex ring has a wavy lower edge. It bears a dedicatory inscription.## Three foliage arms are attached to the hoop. The lamp is hung by three chains from a graded dome-like canopy. The chains are composed of links in the shape of openworked flowers.## The canopy is surmounted by a cylindrical knob. The glass oil container is widening and bears three cartouches, which are framed by foliate pattern. Each cartouche bears a dedicatory inscripiton. Under the cartouches is a frieze with floral pattern. The dedicatory iscriprtion on the ring is cut out in filled letters, and reads: נר תמיד למנוחת % כה'ר )כבוד הרב רבי( יחייא ן )בן( מרגי נ!ע % כ'ה )כבוד הרב( הר' שם טוב נרו' )נטריה רחמנו ופרקיה( !Memorial light for the repose of % the honourable Rabbi Rabbi (int.) Jehiah son of Margi, may he rest in Eden (int.) % the honourable Rabbi the Rabbi Shem Tov, may the Merciful One protect him and save him (int.)! Under the initials of the words !the honourable Rabbi! another dedicatory inscription is engraved, and reads: יחייא ? חתן כ ן )בן( ך)?( בשנים ועשרים יום לח' )לחודש( % אדר שנת תרצא )תרעא( לפ!ק תנצב!ה !Jehiah ? bridegroom the honourable (int.?) son of (int.) ? in the years and twenty days in the minth (int.) % of adar the year (5)671=1911 ((5)691=1931)! The dedicatory inscription on the oil container is written in brown filled letters, and reads: נר לעילוי ## נשמת המ!נוח % כ!ה!ר ## יחאיי ן' )בן( מרגי % בנו יחידו של ## כה! הר! שם טוב ## נרו! !Light in memory of the## soul of the late % the honourable Rabbi Rabbi (int.) ## Jehian son of Margi % the only son of ## the honourable Rabbi the Rabbi Shem Tov ## may the Merciful One protect him and save him (int.)!
