History/Provenance

According to Wikipedia, about 5,000 Jews were shot in Tarnopol between July 2 and 6, 1941, after German troops occupied the city. According to the Tsal Kaplun Foundation, from July 4 through 5, a pogrom led by German soldiers and local collaborators took place, including the burning of a house on Ruska Street with several Jewish families still inside.

The memorial plaque was unveiled in 1991. In 1993, it was included in The List of Monuments of History of Local Significance in the Ternopil region by directive no. 363 of the Ukrainian President representative in Ternopil oblast (protective number 1699).

On January 27, 2022, the International Holocaust Remembrance Day was commemorated near the plaque [Nash Den].
