sub-set tree:
The synagogue building was built between 1904 and 1907. In 1910 the Jewish community in Zenica was 297, with about 200 living in the city on the eve of the German invasion of Yugoslavia.
185 members of the Zenica Jewish community were killed in the Holocaust. Returning survivors were unable to rebuild the heavily damaged synagogue building, and the building served other non-religious purposes. The building housed the printing press of Zenica Ironworks and in the 1960s it was used as a furniture store. Jewish Community of Yugoslavia reached an agreement with the city in 1968 to turn the building into a local museum. The plaque was installed on the façade at that time.
